The Great Commission

History

October 8, 1988

The Great Commission Interdenominational Church was founded October 8, 1988 with eight members under the leadership of Reverend Sylvester C. Hooks. We had Sunday School for two Sundays and then the Lord blessed us to have Worship Service and Sunday School at 887 Miller Avenue at the home of Rev. Sylvester and Mrs. Mary Hooks. We soon out grew the family room and later rented space from the Masonic Hall Lodge.

Purpose

The Great Commission Interdenominational Church is an interdenominational church organization, reaching out to every race, creed, color, and religion. The goal of the church is to present God's word in Spirit and Truth as an application of St. Matthew 28: 19 - 20. "Go therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of world."

Statement of Faith

We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day He rose from the dead, He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church (universal church), the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.
